The phantom blocker blocks phantom power while allowing the audio signal to pass through. Phantom power can be applied to either the male or female side of the XLR connector of the phantom blocker and never reaches the opposite side of the application.
Applications:
Microphone Preamps
Some preamps are too sensitive to phantom power at the input. The input transformer of the preamp cannot handle phantom power from another source. The thin silk insulation of the transformer can burn out due to high voltage. Therefore, a phantom blocker can prevent such damage.
Unbalanced TRS to XLR cable
When connecting an unbalanced TRS to XLR cable, Pin 3 of the XLR connector is directly connected to ground and may cause damage to the input transformer and phantom power circuits in the event of a short circuit.
Balanced device outputs
A phantom blocker is the best way to protect the output when connecting the XLR input to a mixing desk or preamp that uses phantom power.
Microphones
We recommend the FetHead model to prevent such damage that may occur in microphones (especially ribbon microphones).
Important!
Make sure that the phantom blocker is installed in the area you want to protect from phantom power. Wait for about 5 seconds for the voltage differences of the phantom power from the source that has phantom power on to be cut off in the internal circuit.
