It was necessary to wait until the 19th century for the trumpet to take its current form. In 1826, two Germans named Bluhmel and Stölzel invented the "Piston or Chromatic Trumpet" by adding three pistons and pipes compatible with these pistons to a simple trumpet. With this trumpet, it became possible to obtain all chromatic sounds, no different from today's trumpets.
